Rhodium (Rh) is element 46 on the periodic table. It is a precious metal.

Properties

Rhodium is known for being very shiny, due to its A) resistance to corrosion and B) being the second-most reflective metal (#1 is silver, but silver has a tendency to tarnish at room temperature).

Price

Rhodium is known for its major price swings. In five years, one pound could go from $2,000 to $7,000, and then in the next 3 months it could drop down to $1,680. Rhodium is very risky in terms of investment, so be careful not to buy too much pure rhodium.

Applications

Rhodium is often used in movie jewelry, where a very light layer of rhodium is needed to make a ring extremely shiny.
