Maganese is a Chemical element, represented by the Atomic symbol Mn, and the Atomic number 25. It is a transition metal, as well as a free element. This does not mean it is free to obtain, rather it is commonly used in naturally occurring alloys, and is easy to work with. It is used in some varieties and processes of creating stainless steel. Manganese ions have various colors, depending on their oxidation state, and are used industrially as pigments. Manganese dioxide is used as the cathode (electron acceptor) material in standard and alkaline disposable dry cells and batteries. It is gray-white to silver, resembling iron. It is brittle, but easily oxidized.
