Alkali metals are an extremely reactive metal group. The energy is not available until we split the molecules with strong electricity.

They react with halogens to create alkali halides, one of which is table salt, sodium chloride, or NaCl. They react with water violently as in this equation, where is the alkali metal in question: (2 A) + (2 H^2O) -> (2 A-OH) + (H^2).

The properties are more malignant as we proceed downwards the table. The reaction is faster and more energy is exerted. Francium is not existent in amounts of more than 1 oz. because of its extremely short half-life of 22 minutes, therefore adding to its rarity.
